"Everybody Dance Now" Disability Dance Class Extends Age Range to Include Young Adults -- Beginning July 12

FULLERTON, Calif., June 27, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- "Everybody Dance Now," the first dance and movement program for those with special needs in North Orange County, will offer six-week dance classes for children and young adults at CF Dance Academy West Campus at 109 S. Harbor Blvd in Fullerton, on Fridays starting July 12, 2013. Event Flyer: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/549870/EBDN%20Summer%202013%20flyer.png

Originally offering classes for the age range 4-13, the overwhelming demand led to the goal of addressing the needs of a broader age range extending from Pre-K through 12th grade, up to age 22 for those in special education.

Friday summer sessions include:

  • 5-6pm, Pre-K through 6th grade
  • 6-7pm, 7th through 12th grade

Summer participants will perform in the 5th Annual Rock the Beat at Knott's Berry Farm Hotel in Buena Park on Sunday, August 18.

Sessions will utilize best practices for inclusion and participation for those affected by developmental, physical, or cognitive disabilities.

In addition to learning a choreographed routine, the older participants will be taught how to freestyle dance in preparation for school dances.

Classes are taught by CF Dance Academy co-owner and co-director Leanna Forcucci-Herron, of Fullerton, with 25 years of dance experience, and Facilitator Robin Hogerhuis, of Fullerton, a parent of two children with autism, with her MS in Special Education and an MA in Behavioral Therapy.

"Peer buddies" from CF Dance will serve as aides and guides.

Classes are $70.50 for a six-week session, identical to the cost for a dance class with non-disabled participants.

In conjunction with disability support from Fullerton Cares, "Everybody Dance Now" aims to provide inclusion and acceptance for those affected by autism in Fullerton and North Orange County.

Says Fullerton Cares Founder Larry Houser, "Unfortunately, young adults with special needs frequently age out of many opportunities our community offers. CF Dance Academy is filling a void in our community by offering this groundbreaking special needs dance program for children and young adults."
