Boil Water Order Lifted for Town of Canmore, Excluding Canmore Nordic Centre


CANMORE, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - July 5, 2013) - Effective immediately, the Boil Water Notice for the Town of Canmore, excluding the Canmore Nordic Centre, is lifted.

Alberta Health Services has advised EPCOR that the water supplied to the Town of Canmore, excluding the Canmore Nordic Centre, no longer requires boiling and, following the recommended precautions listed below, is now safe to consume.

EPCOR residential and commercial customers in the Town of Canmore (excluding the Canmore Nordic Centre), who had previously been under Boil Water Order (since June 22), can stop boiling water prior to drinking or cooking, and resume normal water handling and consumption practices.

Water users no longer under the Boil Water Order are asked to take the following precautions:

Residential customers should:
  • Flush all water-using fixtures for 5 minutes. Flush means run taps
  • Run all cold water faucets for 5 minutes before using the water
  • Drain and flush ice-making systems on their refrigerator
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45 degrees C (normal setting is 60 degrees C)
Commercial customers should:
  • Flush all water-using fixtures for 5 minutes
  • Run all cold water faucets and drinking fountains for 5 minutes before using the water
  • Drain all cisterns, and flush with clean water
  • Heat the hot water tank temperature to 65 degrees Celsius
  • Drain and flush all ice-making systems
  • Backwash pool filters and change media (filters) or water
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle
  • Clean and disinfect all shared toys and diapering areas
  • Run food spraying sprinklers for 5 minutes before using the water
  • Clean and disinfect all counters
