The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Partners with Liberty Power to Launch STEM Scholarship Program

WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce its partnership with Liberty Power, America's largest Hispanic-owned energy provider. This alliance will provide tens of thousands of dollars in annual scholarships to eligible students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degrees.

"The USHCC is proud of Liberty Power's leadership and commitment toward fostering the development of tomorrow's visionaries. Hispanic youth are America's next great innovators, leading the nation's STEM enrollment rates with a 33 percent increase in the last decade alone," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "By giving students the resources they need, we are stemming the tide of restrictive education costs and ensuring we continue to out-innovate the rest of the world."

This year, the Bright Horizons Scholarship will offer one $10,000 scholarship and two $5,000 scholarships for those interested in obtaining STEM degrees. Scholarship recipients will be announced at this year's USHCC National Convention, set to take place in Chicago on September 15th-17th.

"We are deeply moved by Liberty Power's devotion toward preparing our youth for the challenges and opportunities of the future." said Marc Rodriguez, USHCC Chairman of the Board. "The USHCC is honored to work with Liberty Power, a true inspiration to our association and living proof that a company can do smart business and advance the common good at the same time."

Liberty Power is the largest independent energy supplier in the United States. The company is also the first certified minority-owned supplier with a national footprint, and the largest Hispanic-owned energy company in the country.

"There is a clear connection between my educational and life experiences and how I, with the help of others, have applied those lessons to get to where I am today," said David Hernandez, Co-founder & CEO  of Liberty Power. "I'm proud to partner with the USHCC, to support promising young minds in their own educational pursuits."
