Aberdeen Group Publishes IT Infrastructure, Virtualization & Cloud Research Reports

Research Examines Large Enterprise Server Virtualization, Cloud Archiving, and Deployment of Email, Ecommerce and Web Applications

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 25, 2013) - Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), today announced the publication of four new research reports from its IT Infrastructure, Virtualization and Cloud, and Networking and Application Performance research practices.

"Server Virtualization in Large Enterprises: Most Benefits are Still to Be Gained," one of four reports authored this month by Dick Csaplar, Senior Research Analyst for the Aberdeen IT Infrastructure/Virtualization and the Cloud research practice, shows that large companies (those with more than 1000 employees) have virtualized fewer of their large, enterprise, mission-critical applications than small or mid-sized companies. However, large enterprises gain disproportionally greater benefits from server virtualization in such areas as reduced IT expenses and higher application availability. If large enterprises were to virtualize a greater percentage of their applications they would gain still greater financial and operational benefits. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8490&camp=PRES.

Next from Dick Csaplar, "The Emerging Industry of Cloud Archiving" drills down on an aspect of Cloud storage that is emerging as an important option for long-term file retention. Cloud archiving is particularly important to small- and mid-sized companies as they generally have a single location with no remote data storage capabilities. The report examines a subset of survey respondents and closely examines their Cloud archiving programs. Cloud archivers tend to retain their files longer, have fast growing archives, and are able to reduce their IT spending and headcount growth as they outsource more of their IT services to Cloud providers. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8582&camp=PRES.

"On-Premise or in the Cloud -- How the Best-In-Class Deploy Email Applications," also authored by Dick Csaplar, shows that there are now five basic ways to deploy an application either on-premise or in the Cloud. Leading organizations are more likely to deploy email in the Cloud using a SaaS deployment model or hosted by a Cloud provider. All others are most likely to have email deployed in-house, on a physical server, without the benefit of any server virtualization. The Best-in-Class are clearly gaining the advantages of the Cloud when it comes to supporting email. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8597&camp=PRES.

Finally from Dick Csaplar, "On-Premise or in the Cloud -- How the Best-In-Class Deploy eCommerce and Web Applications" shows that deployment methods for these applications are very similar with those in the email report mentioned above. eCommerce and Web applications are predominantly deployed in the Cloud by leading organizations. Web and eCommerce tend to be very "bursty" applications with wide ranges of demand based on sales, holidays, or promotions. The Cloud is ideal for providing computing resources for times of high demand but also dialing back services so users don't pay for underutilized capacity. All other survey respondents were more likely to have their Web and eCommerce applications deployed in-house, on a physical server, without the benefit of any server virtualization.
