Nonprofit to Award More Than $4 Million in Financial Aid to High School Seniors in 2014

OAK BROOK, IL--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2013) - Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) today announced the launch of its annual U.S. Scholarship Program, offering eligible high school seniors the opportunity to apply for a chance to win a scholarship award. Along with participating RMHC Chapters, the Charity plans to award more than $4 million in scholarships to students who are exemplary role models in their communities and wish to continue their education. Applications are now available online at rmhc.org and the student application deadline is January 21, 2014.

"Over the past 10 years, the cost of undergraduate tuition, room and board at public institutions has risen 42 percent," said Sheila Musolino, chief operating officer of RMHC. "Through the RMHC U.S. Scholarship Program, our goal is to help students, who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and a commitment to the communities in which they live, attend college to help them reach their full potential."

Some eligibility requirements are: applicants must be less than 21 years of age, carry a minimum 2.7 GPA, be eligible to enroll and attend an accredited post-secondary education institution during the academic year following their graduation, and submit a complete application and all required documentation by January 21, 2014. The online application is user-friendly, offering a "live chat" to assist applicants with the application process and provide tips. Students may also submit a short video statement describing who they are, why they are deserving of an RMHC scholarship and how they plan to apply their education to make a difference and give back.

The RMHC U.S. Scholarship program is one of the largest scholarship programs of its kind in the country. For more than two decades, RMHC has distributed more than $52 million in scholarship awards to nearly 30,000 students, who may not otherwise have achieved the educational and career opportunities they sought.
