Kognitio Assumes Leading Role at #BigDataNYC; Joins Strata/Hadoop World Conference as Exabyte Sponsor

CIO to Speak on Clearing Up Confusion Over True In-Memory Computing, Bridging Hadoop With Legacy Systems to Reduce Big Data Query Times to Seconds

NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kognitio, driving the convergence of Big Data, in-memory analytics and cloud computing, today announced that it will take part in #BigDataNYC, to be held later this month here in New York, and has also joined the upcoming Strata + Hadoop World conference as an exabyte sponsor.

"Kognitio is poised to assume a leading role in this year's activities," said John Furrier, Chief Executive Officer of SiliconANGLE Media, organizer of #BigDataNYC-- a live media event broadcast providing news and commentary on the week's activities. "As Hadoop moves into a transformational stage, developers, users, and executives seek to empower their companies to benefit from in-depth analytics of immense data sets.  Initiatives like #BigDataNYC allow an audience of engaged practitioners to see how Kognitio and other market leaders are helping customers apply Big Data technologies to create high value business outcomes."

Strata + Hadoop World is where big data's most influential decision makers, architects, developers, and analysts gather to shape the future of their businesses and technologies. Since joining forces last year, Strata + Hadoop World is also one of the largest gatherings of the Apache Hadoop community in the world, emphasizing hands-on and business sessions for the Hadoop ecosystem. It will also be an excellent networking event for developers, architects, administrators, data analysts, data scientists and vendors interested in advancing, extending or implementing Hadoop.

As part of the Hadoop World conference, Paul Groom, Kognitio Chief Innovation Officer, will speak about how to insulate Hadoop clusters from the rigors of BI usage. He will also address the widespread confusion surrounding the correct application of in-memory computing.  "Merely taking a cached copy of data from a traditional, disk-based data warehouse and dropping it into memory simply does not deliver the benefits of true in-memory computing," Groom says. "Too many vendors are muddying the waters about 'in-memory'; adding some digital storage and a larger cache does not constitute true in-memory – that's just cheap (cynical) engineering. It's time for absolute clarity in this area as the benefits are very real."

Groom will also tell conference attendees that a Modern Data Platform must act as a Logical Data Warehouse to "bridge" Hadoop with legacy systems and connect it to existing visualization and dashboard tools for reporting and advanced analytics. While Hadoop benefits from multiple CPUs, he notes, a true in-memory approach and mature SQL is needed in a Hadoop environment to reduce query response times to seconds.

Additional in-depth analysis of the events in NYC will be delivered from SiliconANGLE's theCUBE – a live mobile TV studio providing real-time news, analysis and opinion of the week's activities. theCUBE will interview technologists, customers, and thought leaders and can be seen at http://siliconangle.tv.
