Expanded Partnership to Drive Innovation and Help Transform Healthcare Industry

Foundation Medical Partners Appoints Two General Partners and Opens Boston Office

ROWAYTON, CT--(Marketwired - Oct 25, 2013) -  Foundation Medical Partners, a healthcare technology venture capital investment firm, led by General Partners Dr. Andrew Firlik and Dr. Lee Wrubel, today announced that Bill Geary and Michael Greeley are joining as General Partners. Based in the newly formed Boston office, Bill Geary, previously a General Partner at North Bridge Venture Partners, and Michael Greeley, most recently a General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners, are well known and respected in the healthcare technology industry. Each brings a deep background in investing insight, commitment to the success of entrepreneurs and experience in helping to build premiere venture capital firms.

The General Partners also announced three Executive Partners, available as resources to its portfolio companies: Kevin Sharer, former CEO of Amgen; Chris Kryder, Founder and former CEO of D2Hawkeye, which merged to form Verisk Health; and Tom Mac Mahon, former CEO of LabCorp.

"Healthcare is undergoing a transformational change as shifting business models and technology are causing tremendous upheaval," said Dr. Lee Wrubel, General Partner, Foundation Medical Partners. "There is a massive opportunity for venture-backed technology solutions to take charge of this industry, solve real healthcare business problems, and generate superior investment returns. Bill and Michael bring the skills and experience in technology, business and healthcare to help our portfolio companies lead the convergence of healthcare and technology."

Actively managing more than $200 million in venture capital in prior funds, Foundation Medical Partners draws extensively on its wide and differentiated network of specialized resources at the country's leading healthcare industry organizations and academic institutions. As the healthcare market shifts from traditional fee-for-service to value-based models, driven further by consumerization, mobility and analytics, the firm's investing strategy is focused on technologies and services that make this transformation possible. Industry segments of interest include big data, patient health analytics, connected health, novel devices and break-through diagnostics.

"As an entrepreneur taking on new markets, Bill Geary's experience, commitment and leadership have proven to be an invaluable asset to me and my entire team," said Stan Lapidus, CEO, SynapDx. "North Bridge Venture Partners has built a leading venture capital organization and I am delighted to continue working closely with North Bridge. We also look forward to working with Bill and his new firm, Foundation Medical Partners, as they parlay their combined healthcare-focused strengths into action to support entrepreneurs."

Bill Geary joins Foundation Medical Partners after a 20-year career at North Bridge Venture Partners. While at North Bridge, Bill focused primarily on healthcare technology and software, with representative investments including eBenX, Connance, Healthrageous, Humedica, Infomedics, Pharmetrics, SynapDx and Valence Health. Bill serves on the advisory board of the Center for Connected Health at Boston's Partners HealthCare System, the business advisory board of Joslin Diabetes Center, the technology development fund advisory board of Boston Children's Hospital, the innovation advisory board of pharmaceutical company Boehringer-Ingelheim, and was the former Chair of the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Boston College.

"I've had the pleasure of working closely with both Michael Greeley and the Foundation team and their commitment to entrepreneurs, expertise in technology and healthcare, combined with powerful industry connections are unparalleled," said Chris Coloian, CEO, Predilytics.

Prior to joining Foundation Medical Partners, Michael Greeley served as a Founding General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners where he led investments including BlueTarp Financial, MicroCHIPS, Predilytics, Predictive Biosciences, PolyRemedy, T2 Biosystems, TARIS Biomedical and VidSys. He also served on the board of International Data Group, the initial flagship Limited Partner for the IDG Ventures global network of funds. Michael is a member of the Investment Committee for the Partners Healthcare System Innovation Fund, and until recently served on the Executive Committee of the National Venture Capital Association and was a former Chair of the New England Venture Capital Association. He is currently Chair of the Massachusetts Information Collaborative.

"We are thrilled with the expansion of our team and believe we have the expertise to be central to the evolving healthcare venture landscape, by delivering strategic insight and outsized returns to our LPs," said Dr. Andrew Firlik, General Partner, Foundation Medical Partners.
