Logentries Releases New Machine to Machine Alerting Capability

Announces beta availability of Amazon S3 archiving feature

BOSTON, Jan. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Logentries, a leading service for collecting and analyzing huge quantities of machine-generated log data, has released a new machine to machine alerting capability that enables organizations developing and running distributed web, mobile and internet-of-things (IoT) applications to automatically send and receive alerts between systems.

Now generally available for use, the new event tagging and alerting capabilities provide users of the Logentries service with a simple, yet powerful way for machine-generated log events to be filtered in real-time to identify critical information. In addition, it's possible for information alerts to be sent automatically to other systems using standardized WebHooks.

The company also is announcing beta availability of a new feature to store and archive log data to Amazon S3, giving customers an easy to use, longer term storage option.

"As applications and the modern compute stack continue to be decentralized and distributed across on-premises, public cloud, and private hosted environments, and application components are increasingly decoupled, IT managers are changing how they build applications, manage operations and drive business insights from operational data," said Andrew Burton, President and CEO of Logentries.  "With these new features, Logentries continues to deliver the real-time log and data analytics that meets the needs of a wide range of organizations, from small start-ups to large enterprises."

Machine to Machine capability
Now, users can more easily create tags to identify and report on important log events, as well as alerts for immediate notifications via email, mobile devices or WebHooks, which have emerged as one of the leading mechanisms to enable a more programmable web. WebHooks provide a simple way to get data in and out, in real-time across applications.  From organizations looking to automatically scale their Amazon Web Services environment during times of increased traffic to software development and IT operations teams wanting to intelligently handle errors or exceptions in an automated manner, WebHooks allow for easy software construction through integration of existing systems.

"Delivering software successfully is now as much construction as creation, and picking the best of services is vital," said Oisin Hurley, CTO at Converser. "We combined the best of Logentries for automatically invoking alerts based on application-specific critical events with Twilio and have now built a small but valuable custom monitoring solution with intelligent SMS (Short Message Service) routing."

"Our users are constantly coming up with new, innovative ways of consuming alerts, by integrating with more and more services via WebHooks including task automation using Hubot, team notification and SMS services like Twillio, Hipchat and PagerDuty, testing automation and integration services like Runscope and Zapier, and many other points of integration," said Burton.

The new tagging and alerting capabilities are immediately available and are included at no additional cost to the core Logentries services. This includes the free version of Logentries, which allows users to send up to 1GB (gigabyte) of log data per month. Amazon S3 storage option
Logentries is announcing a beta of automatic archiving of customer log data to Amazon S3.  When generally available, the new service will be provided at no additional cost for paying customers. Right now, customers can retain logs with Logentries for specified time periods but this new feature gives customers an easy, low cost longer term archiving and storage option. This way, logs are available for searching and analysis for as long as the customer wants. The log data is automatically sent from Logentries to Amazon S3 without any manual intervention. Registration for the beta is available at https://logentries.com/product/features.
