HBase is an open source, non-relational, distributed database modeled after Google's BigTable and used for random, real-time read/write access to Big Data, including Facebook's messaging platform. This capability has been added for both the Hortonworks and Cloudera distributions. 

WANdisco's patented replication technology has been applied to the two availability and performance bottlenecks in HBase's architecture -- its Region and Master Servers -- eliminating the risk of downtime and data loss.
