Utah Transit Authority to Equip Bus and Paratransit Fleet With SmartDrive On-Board Video Safety System

SAN DIEGO, March 31, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SmartDrive Systems, a leading provider of driving safety and fuel management solutions, has been chosen to provide its comprehensive, video-based operator performance and safety program to the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) for its nearly 600 buses and paratransit vehicles. The SmartDrive Safety program has been installed on more than 10,000 transit vehicles in the past year, helping agencies to better protect vehicle operators and the public while lowering operational costs.

The UTA chose SmartDrive following a thorough evaluation of multiple vendors. By mid-2014, the UTA will begin using SmartDrive Safety in-vehicle recorders to capture video and vehicle data during its bus and paratransit vehicles' daily routes. All recorded event clips will go through the SmartDrive Review Center where SmartDrive's specialists provide video analysis services including reviewing, scoring and prioritizing videos for coaching.

"The UTA has long been an industry leader in the use of cutting-edge technologies and services for safety, operational efficiency and optimal rider experience," said Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive. "We are proud to have been chosen for this project by such a prominent transit innovator and view this as validation of the positive impact our video-based safety program can have on agencies."

In addition to the UTA, 26 transit agencies across the U.S. have deployed the SmartDrive solution; customers include LA Metro, DART, Nassau County and Veolia Transportation.
