Redwood City, Calif., April 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq:INFA), the world's number one independent provider of data integration software, today announced that companies using data integration tools ranked Informatica products highly - in categories measuring (1) Suitability for a variety of uses, (2) Productivity and reusability, and (3) Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) - in a survey by Bloor Research, a leading independent IT research, analysis and consulting organization.
The survey report, "Comparative costs and uses for data integration platforms," published in March 2014, measured Suitability according to six common scenarios, or use cases, representing the vast majority of project types for which integration products are used.
Survey responses indicated that "Informatica is the most suitable product overall," the report stated. Further, the report noted, "Informatica is deemed to have the broadest range of applicability, and is among the top three in all project categories."
In the category of Productivity, which included ease of use, productivity and reusability, the survey measured how long development projects took, depending upon the number of end-points involved in the projects - and the average length of projects, weighted by complexity for numerous types of integration tasks.
According to the Bloor Research survey report, Informatica's data integration products, as well as those from two other vendors, "appear to be significantly more efficient in this regard than their competitors. It is also notable that hand coding is the least efficient."
To measure productivity more precisely, Bloor also asked survey respondents if it became easier to use the respective [data integration] tools on subsequent projects. Did they need fewer resources for ensuing projects than they did for the first? By this measure, the report stated, "Informatica was the only vendor to have significantly reduced resource requirements across both internal and external staff."
With respect to the Cost category, Bloor Research asked companies to rank vendors on two fundamental costs measures: initial costs and total cost of ownership over a three-year (or longer) period.
In addition to its broad suitability across a wide range of projects, Informatica was cited for the second-lowest total cost of ownership, over a three-year period. As the survey report noted, "This is a particularly good argument for not simply considering up-front costs: they can be misleading."
Philip Howard, Research Director, Data Management, at Bloor Research, concluded in the report that Informatica was one of two vendors "considered by their users to be somewhat more reusable than their competitors." He also noted that hand coding is "not perceived to be as flexible as other solutions."
Howard stated in the survey report that "Informatica is deemed to be the most suitable product across a wide range of scenarios." And he wrote that, from a TCO perspective, in non-homogeneous environments, "Informatica is clearly the value choice," and that it is "well ahead" of two other large vendors.
Todd Goldman, VP and GM, Enterprise Data Integration and Data Quality, Informatica, said, "This Bloor Research survey report reaffirms that Informatica's data integration platform delivers business value more quickly than competing or manual approaches across a wide range of environments - from departmental to enterprise, transactional to big data and in hybrid, on-premise and cloud environments. It is clear from the survey that companies believe the Informatica platform offers very strong long-term value over a broad range of integration scenarios."
