TEAGUE CEO John Barratt Elected to Head IDSA in 2015

New Chair-Elect to Help Preside Over IDSA's 50th Anniversary Celebration

SEATTLE, WA and HERNDON, VA--(Marketwired - Apr 10, 2014) - John Barratt, IDSA, CEO & President of TEAGUE, one of the most iconic and widely respected design firms in the world, has been elected to serve as Chair of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) beginning in May of 2015. The commencement of his term will follow the launch of IDSA's year-long 50th Anniversary celebration.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to deepen my relationship with IDSA and its members," said Barratt. "For nearly 50 years, IDSA has helped advance design as a profession. I'm grateful to be part of such a storied organization, one that's committed to positively impacting the lives of others. That is the job of design."

The election by a majority of IDSA members immediately installs Barratt as Chair-Elect to serve a year-long term alongside current IDSA Chair Charles Austen Angell, IDSA. The soft transition enables IDSA's incoming Chair to seamlessly accept the reins of the organization in an intentionally collaborative manner.

When Barratt accepts the gavel from Angell to begin his two-year term next May, IDSA will be marking its own transition from its first half century of existence to its second. As part of his duties ushering the Society through such a milestone moment, Barratt will chair the host committee for the IDSA's annual International Design Conference to be held in Seattle in August 2015.

IDSA has many special events and offerings planned to mark its 50th Anniversary -- beginning with a preview this August at IDSA's 2014 International Conference in Austin. The preview will include the debut of the Society's 50th Anniversary identity and a screening of Teague: Design and Beauty, a documentary about Walter Dorwin Teague, FIDSA, founder of TEAGUE.
