Marina Del Rey Hospital Creates Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute for Women's Health

Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute to Offer Less Invasive Women's Surgeries and Free Women's Health Seminars in Los Angeles, Kicking Off During Women's Health Care Month in May

MARINA DEL REY, CA--(Marketwired - May 7, 2014) - Marina Del Rey Hospital, a 145-bed acute care surgical hospital in the Greater Los Angeles area, is creating the Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute (MISI) to offer women in the Los Angeles area the most innovative, least invasive options for hysterectomies and other procedures. MISI will also offer a series of free educational seminars to inform women about safe options when seeking treatment for common women's health issues, which kick-off on May 19 during Women's Health Care Month.

"Data shows that one-in-four women suffer from prolapse or incontinence, but only 11 to 19 percent get surgery to treat the issue. We want to educate women living with these conditions and others that treatment is available with shorter recovery times than they may expect," said Dr. David Ghozland, a gynecological surgeon at Marina Del Rey Hospital. "Through MISI, Marina Del Rey Hospital is embarking upon a campaign to educate women that they don't need to live with painful conditions thanks to our state-of-the-art treatment options."

One such option is the da Vinci™ Si robotic surgery system, used by MISI physicians to offer a less invasive alternative to open hysterectomy, with a faster recovery time for the patient. The MISI surgeons are highly specialized in minimally invasive techniques, including the use of the da Vinci Si system for hysterectomies and other specialty surgeries. These surgeons will be participating in the women's seminars to personally share their knowledge and meet with women considering this treatment option.

Women interested in learning more about the surgery system, or who would like to meet the surgeons and patients who have personally undergone the procedure, are encouraged to participate in the free monthly MISI seminars. The first will take place on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Café Del Rey in Marina Del Rey and will be led by Dr. Ghozland. Seats may be reserved by calling 844-MISI-4-YOU (844-647-4496).
