Clune Construction Begins Fulfillment of $1M Donation to Gateway for Cancer Research

Firms come together to build legacy of innovative clinical cancer studies

CHICAGO, Aug. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last month, leadership from Clune Construction Company, a nationally recognized leader in the interior construction industry, presented Gateway for Cancer Research with a check for $120,000, the first installment of a $1 million contribution Clune Construction announced in 2013.

"By choosing to partner with Gateway, we know that our hard-earned money is going towards making a bigger impact in advancing cancer research," said Mike Clune, chairman and CEO of Clune Construction. "Gateway is a unique charity in that 99 cents of every dollar received directly funds cancer clinical trials."
Clune has long fostered a culture of community support and service, and the company's employees often dedicate their time and talents outside of work to many organizations and causes.

"Since Clune has an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), this contribution is from each and every one of our employees," said Clune. "We have all been affected by the pain, fear and uncertainty of cancer, and we are honored to support Gateway. Their work is truly saving lives."

Teresa Hall Bartels, president of Gateway for Cancer Research, explained that Gateway for Cancer Research is a passionate organization that aims to help cancer patients feel better, live longer or conquer cancer through innovation.

"Without proper funding, doctors don't have access to the resources they need to support potentially lifesaving cancer research," said Bartels. "Clune Construction, through their generous contribution and visionary commitment, can and will provide significant funding to cancer clinical trials and innovative treatment routines - positively altering the way cancer is treated."

Gateway for Cancer Research is a non-profit cancer research charity that provides funding for cutting-edge, potentially life-saving cancer treatment research. Gateway is currently funding nearly 30 phase I and phase II clinical cancer trials around the world.
