Mantra Announces Successful Mission to Japan and Hong Kong

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2014) - The management of Mantra Venture Group Ltd. (OTCQB:MVTG) and its subsidiary, Mantra Energy Alternatives Ltd., have announced a successful business development mission to Tokyo and Hong Kong. The two-week mission that began in late July explored collaboration opportunities with potential high-impact partners in industry, academia and government.

The mission began by Mantra's attending the Renewable Energy World Congress and Exhibition in Tokyo. The Canadian Trade Commission and the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo arranged for exhibition space and Mantra was among the few Canadian companies invited to participate in theevent. The company's innovative technologies generated a great deal of interest from a host of potential collaborators from Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Thailand, including large players in the cement, steel, chemicals, biogas, and automotive industries and academia. Collaboration activities with several of these groups are being actively pursued.

"We were pleased with the opportunity to participate in this mission to Tokyo, as Japan is a world leader in the development and adoption of fuel cell technologies" said Larry Kristof, Mantra's CEO. "This was evident from the widespread interest in Mantra's Mixed Reactant Fuel Cell (MRFC), which is a potential game changer for that industry."

Mantra's delegation expresses its gratitude to Ms. SanaeYonemichi, a Trade Commissioner with the Embassy of Canada, and Mr. Ichiro Mizusawa, Senior Business Development Manager with the British Columbia Trade and Investment Office Japan, for their support on the ground in Tokyo.

Following the event in Japan the Mantra team travelled to Hong Kong, where a subsidiary was recently established, to advance ongoing discussions with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP). Collaboration opportunities for MRFC development were also explored with academic groups, such asHong Kong University of Science and Technology and City University of Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong is home to world-class research and development. Establishing collaborations with universities and research institutes is an excellent way to enter markets not only in Hong Kong, but in mainland China as well," said Patrick Dodd, Mantra's VP of Corporate Development.

About Mantra Venture Group

Mantra Venture Group Ltd. (OTCQB:MVTG) is a clean technology incubator that takes innovative emerging technologies and moves them towards commercialization. The Company, through its subsidiary Mantra Energy Alternatives, is currently developing two groundbreaking electrochemical technologies designed to make reducing greenhouse gas emissions profitable, ERC (Electro-Reduction of Carbon Dioxide) and MRFC (Mixed-Reactant Fuel Cell).

ERCis a form of "carbon capture and utilization" (CCU) that converts the polluting greenhouse gas carbon dioxide into useful, valuable products including formic acid and formate salts. By utilizing clean electricity, the process offers the potential for an industrial plant to reduce emissions while generating a salable product and a profit.

The MRFC is an unconventional fuel cell that uses a mixture of fuel and oxidant, thereby greatly reducing the complexity and cost of the fuel cell system. Ideal for portable applications, the MRFC is cheaper, lighter, and more compact than conventional fuel cell technologies.
