New e-book series seeks to develop children's empathy for animals

RedRover launches Kickstarter campaign to fund E-books for Empathy

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Imagine a world where people truly listened – a world where people understood each other and animals. Imagine a world with more empathy.

RedRover, a national nonprofit, is raising funds for the first book in its E-Books for Empathy series, The Restricted Adventures of Raja the Cat©. E-Books for Empathy inspires kids to want to make the world a better place while giving them a much needed opportunity to practice the skills needed for empathy. Questions integrated into the e-books' interactive apps will help parents and teachers lead discussions with kids so they can imagine what characters are feeling while learning about animal behavior right alongside the characters in the book. The app's games will help kids practice linking behaviors with feelings to become top communicators.

While animal abuse and neglect cases frequently fill the headlines of mainstream news, studies show that it is possible to increase children's empathy skills and increasing empathy may be our best hope for a more compassionate society.

The Kickstarter fundraising campaign launched on September 19 and will continue through October 18. Participants who pledge donations will receive rewards including free downloads of the e-book, donations to classrooms, dinner with the author and RedRover's President CEO, Nicole Forsyth, and signed prints by the illustrator, Mathew den Boer.
