Bit6 Beta Program Releases Android Software Development Kit

Android SDK Joins Previously Released SDKs for iOS and JavaScript

HOUSTON, Oct. 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bit6 (www.bit6.com), a communications as-a-service platform provider that helps transform the app experience by allowing developers to easily add communication features to any mobile or Web application, today announced it is further expanding its beta program with the release of a software development kit (SDK) for Android. The Bit6 Android SDK offers WebRTC-based voice and video calling and multi-media messaging.

With Bit6, it is easy for app developers to dramatically enhance the user experience by quickly adding features that enable user-to-user communications. Bit6 takes the complexities of building a communications stack from scratch and simplifies it down to several straightforward lines of code. Developers do not need additional infrastructure, software, or licenses to utilize these services, which dynamically scale as needed.

The new Bit6 Android SDK includes app-to-app messaging, real-time notifications, voice or video calling, and picture, video and location sharing. The Android SDK joins Bit6's SDKs for iOS and JavaScript, both of which were announced earlier this year. Together, the SDKs enable developers to integrate communications into apps for smartphones, tablets and web browsers.

"The release of our new SDK for Android continues the Bit6 beta program's regular series of releases that are increasing functionality and adding support across the platforms in greatest demand," said Alexey Goloshubin, CEO and CTO of Bit6. "We are learning a great deal about the wants and needs of mobile and web developers who are embracing the Bit6 platform to seamlessly integrate communication features into their apps, transforming the user experience."

The latest Bit6 beta program release also enhances its SDK for iOS, adding support for the Swift programming language and High-Definition Voice with Opus codec. Looking ahead, Bit6 expects to add support for public switched telephone network (PSTN) calls on both the Android and iOS SDKs, as well as other new features and enhancements.

The technology underlying the Bit6 platform is already being used to power top apps in iTunes and Google Play. Each month, Voxofon (www.voxofon.com), a provider of mobile apps utilizing over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging services that shares some technology and infrastructure with Bit6, supports millions of calls and messages across more than 200 countries. Voxofon's apps receive high ratings on GooglePlay and iTunes, and are regularly ranked among the top grossing social networking apps.
