Panel of Judges Announced For Soy Empresaria Business Plan Competition


Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez and Father Greg Boyle among judges to recognize three Latina business-owners in California

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, the Latino Startup Alliance, announced the panel of judges for Soy Empresaria, a program in partnership with Square, and Xoom (Nasdaq: XOOM) are currently taking entries for Soy Empresaria, a program that will give Latina entrepreneurs in California the opportunity to win $10,000 in financial support and mentorship. The panel includes:

  • Father Gregory "Greg" Joseph Boyle, an American Jesuit priest; founder and Director of Homeboy Industries; and former pastor of Dolores Mission Church.
  • Nely Galán, independent producer and former President of Entertainment for Telemundo
  • Laura Gomez, Entrepreneur and Co-Founder of Vyv
  • Kevin Hartz, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Eventbrite, Inc; Co-Founder and former CEO of Xoom Corporation.
  • Julia Hartz, Co-Founder and President, Eventbrite
  • Linda T. Sánchez, U.S. Representative for California's 38th congressional district.

These judges will select three leading Latina business-owners in California whose business plans and supporting videos demonstrate how they plan to grow and make a difference in their community. Winners will be recognized at an event at Xoom's headquarters, where each will be awarded a $10,000 prize and coaching from notable executives from Square, Xoom, and the Latino Startup Alliance.
