Photography News: Canon Updates Its PowerShot Lineup With Five New Cameras, and Releases a New 6D Kit With a 24-105mm Lens

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - January 05, 2015) - B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of the powerful PowerShot SX710 HS, the slim and stylish PowerShot SX610 HS, the PowerShot SX530 HS long-zoom camera, and compact PowerShot ELPH 170 IS and PowerShot ELPH 160 point-and-shoot digital cameras. These cameras feature notable improvements over their predecessors and they all are compatible with the new Canon Connect Station CS100 device for wireless image transfer and storage. Alongside these cameras, Canon is also introducing a new DSLR kit featuring the EOS 6D with the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens.

Packing a 20.3-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor into a compact, high-zoom body, the PowerShot SX710 HS Digital Camera is extraordinarily versatile and small enough to always be by your side. Combined with the Canon HS System for excellent low-light performance is a 30x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 25-750mm, with Intelligent IS and Zoom Framing Assist for shake-free images in low-light conditions and at long focal lengths. The camera also features Full HD 1080p video recording with 60, 30, and 24 fps options with MP4 file output along with a 3.0" 922k-dot LCD screen. Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC is available for remote shooting and uploading images directly to a computer or social network.

The PowerShot SX610 HS Digital Camera offers an 18x optical zoom lens alongside a 20.2-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4+ processor in an exceptionally compact body that features the Canon HS System. Other improvements include a 3.0" 922k-dot LCD screen and Auto Zoom to help frame subjects. The camera also features Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps and built-in Wi-Fi with NFC.

For maximum versatility, the new 50x optical zoom of the PowerShot SX530 HS Digital Camera provides an increase in range while still allowing users to capture wide shots when necessary, thanks to a 24-1200mm equivalent focal length. It features an excellent 16-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4+ image processor to create the Canon HS System for sensitivity to ISO 3200 and shooting up to 10 fps. Along with these capabilities, the camera has Intelligent IS to ensure images are free of camera shake, even at the longest focal lengths and slower shutter speeds, and it can record full HD 1920 x 1080 video at 30p. The SX530 also offers Zoom Framing Assist to keep your subject in focus, as well as built-in Wi-Fi with NFC.

Users looking for a more compact camera can look into the newly updated ELPH line, which introduces the PowerShot ELPH 170 IS Digital Camera and PowerShot ELPH 160 Digital Camera. Both have similar capabilities, with 20-megapixel 1/2.3" CCD sensors, a DIGIC 4+ processor, 720p HD video recording, sensitivity up to ISO 1600, and a continuous shooting rate of 2.2 fps. Also, both are pocketable, measuring less than an inch thick and just 4" wide. Where they differ is in their lenses: the ELPH 160 has an 8x zoom equivalent to 28-224mm, while the ELPH 170 IS has a longer 12x zoom, equivalent to 25-300mm, as well as Intelligent IS.

All of the new PowerShot cameras share one distinct feature: compatibility with Canon's Connect Station CS100. This storage device works with the cameras' NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity options, and can ready SD cards or transfer images through a standard USB 2.0 cable for backup and storage of photos and videos while on the go. The CS100 has 1TB of space and can even send your images over HDMI for viewing your photos and video on a connected TC or monitor. The device can also connect with your mobile device and printer and can be backed up via USB.

Last, but certainly not least, Canon has announced a kit for the full-frame EOS 6D DSLR Camera with the recent EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. Being the first full-frame compatible lens with the STM autofocus motor, it will provide smooth, silent autofocus during the 6D's impressive 1080p video recording.
