Canadian-American Civil Society Partnership in Cuba for New Business Development

OTTAWA, Jan. 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Community Works Ontario, a non-governmental organisation enters a co-operative venture with non-partisan, political coalition in Washington, D.C., and United Nations affiliate partners for voluntary civil society programme on economic and social development in Cuba.

After over a decade of U.S. travel restrictions in Republic of Cuba will come to closure on Friday, restoring the diplomatic relationship between U.S. and Cuba. Travel and hospitality industry providers will be authorised to provide services without requiring a special permit under the new federal regulation, which will soon result in U.S. airlines to launch normally scheduled itineraries from U.S. to Cuba, allowing approved American contractors, non-governmental organisations, and affiliated service providers to freely enter a Latin American nation that was restricted for many years.

Cary Lee Peterson of Robert Peterson & Fields Associates, a legal advisor of the newly established North American-Cuban civil society committee comments, "There is significant potential in Cuba for economic and social development and enhancement. Thus, we anticipate our international committee and multi-lateral affairs can work to establish mutual benefits and overall enrich the lives of Cuban civilians."

The end of long-standing U.S. embargo that started in the 60's will broaden new business development, tourism, and exportation of agricultural goods and production of community goods from raw materials that would be assembled by Cuban workers – an opportunity for a much needed increase in gross national product per capita values; currently ranking 86th in the world according to United Nations Statistics Division and 90th in the world according to U.S. Central Intelligence Agency World Factbook.
