The Governance Institute Announces Renowned Dr. Atul Gawande as Keynote Speaker at Spring System Invitational in Early February

The Governance Institute, a service of National Research Corporation, will focus its Spring System Invitational conference on how health systems can thrive and sustain in the future of evolving healthcare changes with dynamic speaker line up and practicable case study examples.

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Governance Institute, a service of National Research Corporation, announces its Spring System Invitational entitled "Health System 2020: Building an Enduring Enterprise," to take place February 8–10 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas. The conference is designed exclusively for health system CEOs, executives, board members, and physician leaders.

Dr. Atul Gawande and Dr. Robert M. Wachter will be the keynote presenters and provide attendees with practical approaches and vision plans designed to navigate leaders into the complex future of healthcare. In addition, attendees will be encouraged to break out into group huddles and engage with others to identify strategies for their health systems to thrive in 2020 and beyond.

Dr. Gawande is a professor at Harvard Medical School and a renowned surgeon and researcher. His bold visions for improving safety and performance in healthcare have made him one of the most sought after speakers in healthcare. He is making recent media headlines and will be featured in an upcoming segment called "Being Mortal" on PBS Frontline, airing February 10, which explores relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life. TIME placed him among the world's 100 most influential thinkers.

Dr. Wachter is professor and associate chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the author of 250 articles and six books and is generally considered the "father" of the hospitalist field. He has recently completed his newest book, The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype, and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine's Computer Age, to be released this March.

"Leaders are facing an incredible amount of pressure to handle issues that are consuming them in the short-term," said Jona Raasch, CEO of The Governance Institute. "Our agenda for this conference is focused on steering leaders away from short-term thinking, and wrap their minds around a framework that promotes building their organizations a solid foundation for the future. Dr. Gawande and Dr. Wachter are prime examples of leaders who are helping bring this vision to light."
