Harper Government Supports Canadian Company in White Rock, B.C.

WHITE ROCK, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 15, 2015) - Public Works and Government Services Canada

Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament for South Surrey-White Rock-Cloverdale, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, is pleased to announce that Public Works and Government Services Canada has awarded a $542,643 contract to Fluvial Systems Research Inc. of White Rock, British Columbia, under the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP) for its Spaceborne Water Quality Assessment technique.

Fluvial Systems Research Inc. has developed a new cutting-edge technique that extracts information about water quality in small, shallow rivers using imagery from a new high-resolution satellite. The innovative technique allows for daily water monitoring and provides water resource officials with vital information in the event of water contamination in rivers and streams. Officials can rapidly identify sources of contamination and take comprehensive precautionary measures to ensure sustainable management of water resources. The Spaceborne Water Quality Assessment technique is cost-effective as it does not require crews to access remote bodies of water. The innovation will be tested by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The BCIP helps Canadian businesses get their cutting-edge goods and services from the lab to the marketplace. Successful sales translate into jobs, and jobs lead to prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families. This program is just one of the many ways the Government of Canada supports small and medium businesses across Canada.

Quick Facts

  • The BCIP was created in 2012 to help kick-start businesses and move their cutting-edge products and services from the lab to the marketplace.

  • Products can be eligible for contracts up to $500,000 under the program's standard component, and up to $1 million under the military component.

  • As of May 15, 2015, over 100 contracts have been awarded under the BCIP, bringing Canadian companies one step closer to selling to domestic and international markets.
