Member of Parliament Ray Boughen announces funding for the Royal Saskatchewan Museum


REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - May 20, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $46,748 in funding to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum for its project "Protecting and Curating Saskatchewan's Palaeontology Collection. This support is being provided through the Museums Assistance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament (Palliser), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

  • Through this project, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum will:
    • purchase and install museum-standard metal storage cabinets to make better use of space and meet storage requirements for the safety of the collection, as well as staff and researchers;
    • relocate collections housed in existing cabinets or outside of storage units due to lack of space;
    • ensure proper housing of specimens requiring specialized storage, such as microscope slides of fossilized amber; and
    • update location information in their collections database.
  • The Museums Assistance Program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.
