CSC Teams up with EHE International on Cancer Awareness Campaign

Rockefeller Plaza window displays "Everyone knows someone" tagline to promote resources of support for those affected by cancer

NEW YORK, July 7, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For the month of July, the Cancer Support Community (CSC) has a window display in Rockefeller Center raising awareness of the free comprehensive social and emotional support services it provides to cancer patients and their families, so that no one faces cancer alone. This year alone, it is estimated that 1.6 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer. In fact, 41 percent of Americans are expected to receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, which translates to 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men. A cancer diagnosis is a life changing event that often brings with it feelings of anxiety, distress and depression, and CSC firmly believes that these feelings are something that no one should have to go through alone.

The Rockefeller Center display will feature the words "Everyone knows someone touched by cancer. I am a..." It will include an LCD screen in the center of the display listing a rotation of answers to fill in the blank, "I am a...", in order to highlight the fact that no one should experience cancer alone. This campaign is a continuation from CSC's Spring Celebration in April where guests were invited to pose before a wall with the same words featured above them while holding a title card detailing their relation to cancer. From mother to son, survivor to caregiver, and many more, this campaign highlights the fact that cancer affects more than just the patient diagnosed, and there are communities of support for everyone.

This window, donated by EHE International, is located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza and is projected to reach over 250,000 people per day. CSC will simultaneously host a virtual campaign through social media to encourage people across the country to share with us their connection to cancer. We hope everyone will join us in this effort to share the message that, "no one should face cancer alone". "EHE proudly supports Cancer Support Community's efforts to raise awareness of the resources available to cancer patients and their families by offering a high-traffic platform in Rockefeller Plaza," said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International. "The message is clear, no one should face cancer alone."

"We are incredibly thankful for the generous donation of window space by EHE International, which gives us the opportunity to share the knowledge of our resources to thousands of people who may be in need," said Kim Thiboldeaux, Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Support Community. "Our name is the Cancer Support Community, and what this campaign aims to convey is that there is an entire global community of people eager to provide support for those touched by cancer. Everybody knows someone, and now, everybody has somewhere to turn."

CSC invites everyone touched by cancer to share their connection to cancer by posting photos or text on social media with the hashtag #CSCEmpower.
