CONNECTICUT CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST WEBINAR ON ACL INJURIES AND RETURN TO SPORT ON AUGUST 27


HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Connecticut Children's Medical Center will hold a webinar on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in adolescents on Thursday, August 27 from 12:15-1:15PM. The webinar will be presented by Dr. Carl Nissen of the Division of Orthopaedics and Elite Sports Medicine.

With more than 200,000 ACL injuries reported each year, proper evaluation and treatment is key in getting young athletes back on the field doing what they love. This free, educational webinar is designed to help physicians better understand the diagnosis and return to sport guidelines for this all too common sports injury.

The free, educational webinar will include:

• Overview of the etiology and diagnosis of skeletally immature (adolescent) ACL injuries and associated morbidities
• Evaluation and referral processes for young adult athletes
• Treatment protocols and return to sport guidelines

About Dr. Nissen: Dr. Nissen has been caring for student-athletes for greater than 20 years including elite level high school and college athletes including athletes at Trinity College, Quinnipiac University, the University of Connecticut and currently is a member of the US Lacrosse National Team medical staff. His clinical interests include the surgical care and management of injuries about the shoulder, elbow, and the knee. He is invested in research efforts to better understand the stress placed on joints during athletic competition and injury prevention programs to limit these stresses.
