Camp Cambria Kicks Off Second Season of Summer Camp for Kids With Juvenile Arthritis

Cambria Strengthens Commitment by Launching Foundation to Support Camp Initiative

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwired - Aug 9, 2015) - Cambria, the exclusive family-owned, American-made natural quartz producer in North America, welcomes children living with juvenile arthritis (JA) and arthritis-related diseases back to Camp Cambria for its second year. Children ages 8-17 will experience the free, six-day camp Aug. 9 - 14, exclusively for kids who face similar challenges every day.

"Camp Cambria provides a space for children living with JA to simply be children," said Liz Atchison, director of juvenile arthritis family engagement at the Arthritis Foundation. "As 'Champions of Yes' for all people living with this disease, we understand how important it is for these children to achieve everyday victories during their time at camp. Camp Cambria customizes daily activities to ensure all campers enjoy the best six days of summer at their own pace."

On the grounds of Camp Courage -- a campsite west of the Twin Cities metro specifically designed for children with physical disabilities -- Camp Cambria offers a vast range of activities for JA campers. From essential coping and stress management skills taught by onsite medical staff, to learning about disease management tools and participating in activities that help them build self-esteem, campers will leave having gained new independence and friends.

In only its second year, the camp has grown to nearly 80 campers. Cambria recently established the Camp Cambria Foundation to raise awareness of the 300,000 children in the U.S. living with JA and to continue to expand efforts to benefit youth who suffer from the debilitating disease. The foundation's mission is to provide children with JA the opportunity to meet other kids and share opportunities to learn, engage in social activities and build mutual support and encouragement.

"When we learned how widespread juvenile arthritis was -- with more than 13,000 children suffering from the lifelong disease in the Upper Midwest region alone -- we wanted to do something that would have a direct impact within our community," said Peter Martin, Cambria Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Partner Services. "The goal of the Camp Cambria Foundation is to ensure all children living with JA can interact and engage with other children who understand what they're going through, and most of all, can just be kids."

North American Composites, KNW Group, and many more, contributed to the Camp Cambria Foundation this year to foster and broaden its overall initiatives to support kids. Their generous support will enhance the lives of children living with JA by promoting their ability to learn and grow together.
