CIC Reports Second Quarter Results


REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Aug. 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Communication Intelligence Corporation (“CIC”) (OTCQB:CICI), a leading supplier of electronic signature and other software solutions enabling secure and cost-effective management of document-based digital transactions, today reported revenue of $367,000 for the three months ended June 30, 2015, a decrease of $106,000 or 22%, compared to total revenue of $473,000 for the same quarter in the prior year. For the six months ended June 30, 2015, total revenue was $814,000, an increase of $40,000, or 5%, compared to total revenue of $774,000 for the same period in the prior year.

“Although we remain bullish on our mid- to long-term potential, the results of the quarter were well under our expectations and we have taken a number of steps to reduce our expense run rate over the second half of the year,” said Philip Sassower, chairman and chief executive officer for CIC. “We continue to be pleased with the growth of the transactions attributable to our partnership with Cegedim SA, and are seeing an increase in our sales activity in the US.”

For the quarter ended June 30, 2015, operating expenses were $1,396,000, an increase of $2,000, or 1%, compared to operating expenses of $1,394,000 for the same quarter in the prior year. For the six months ended June 30, 2015, operating expenses were $2,861,000, an increase of $101,000, or 4%, compared to operating expenses of $2,760,000 for the same period in the prior year. These increases were primarily due to an increase in stock option compensation expenses, offset primarily by decreases in salary and benefits.

For the quarter ended June 30, 2015, the net loss attributable to common stockholders was $1,814,000, a decrease of $37,000, or 2%, compared to a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $1,851,000 for the same quarter in the prior year. This decrease was primarily due to a higher loss from operations and a greater amount charged for preferred stock dividends issued in kind, offset by lower interest expense, compared to the same quarter in the prior year.

For the six months ended June 30, 2015, the net loss attributable to common stockholders was $4,074,000, an increase of $168,000, or 4%, compared to a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $3,906,000 for the same period in the prior year. This increase was primarily due to increases in loss from operations, in non-cash expenses related to the accretion of beneficial conversion feature on preferred share issuances and in the amount charged for preferred stock dividends issued in kind, offset by the aforementioned decrease in interest expense.
