Koenig Family Chiropractic Warns of Long-Term Issues After Weather Related Automobile Accidents

PLYMOUTH, Mass., Sept. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With the change of seasons, we are once again reminded of the negatives that come along with cooler weather. Snow, sleet and hail cause less than ideal driving conditions which leads to a rise in automotive collisions. Dr. Joshua Koenig of Plymouth’s Koenig Family Chiropractic takes this time of year to warn patients to drive safely, and visit a chiropractor after any automotive accident.

Koenig Family Chiropractic, a trusted chiropractic clinic often sees patients for auto injuries, sports injuries, back pain, disc injuries, headache remedies and much more. But Dr. Koenig believes the benefits of immediate and long-term chiropractic care following any car accident is one of the most important parts of his practice. According to him, a rear-end automotive collision can cause substantial damage to the vertebrae, discs, muscles and nerves.

“Weather related auto accidents are some of the scariest,” Dr. Koenig said. “We recommend seeing a chiropractor for a diagnosis as soon as possible after any accident. Even accidents at speeds as low as 5 mph can cause long-term issues.”

According to Dr. Koenig, automotive accidents are the most common cause of whiplash injuries. Each year, the U.S. sees around 3 million of these cases, many of which are weather related.

“Seeking chiropractic care immediately following an accident can prevent long-term problems,” he says. “It’s estimated that more than six percent of all Americans suffer from Late Whiplash Syndrome. Seeing a chiropractor, along with physical therapy and professional massage can help obtain better results.”

Dr. Koenig also warns that using medication to alleviate pain caused by car accidents can be a quick fix, but it won’t solve the long term problem. Overlooking the root of the problem can lead to stiffness, soreness, prolonged injury and even re-injury.

“There are many problems we can fix with regular visits, and even more we can fix with a regimented care plan,” said Dr. Koenig. “Taking a painkiller might make you feel better for the day, but solving the actual problem, and not just covering the pain, is always better.”
