Media Advisory: Seniors Celebrate "International Day of Older Persons" by Highlighting Seniors' Issues in Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 30, 2015) - This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations declaration of October 1st as the "International Day of Older Persons" and seniors groups from Halifax to Vancouver will be marking the day with a variety of events. They will be urging the political parties to commit to take action in four areas of concern for seniors: pensions, health care, housing and the growing inequality in Canada.

A collaboration of over 50 seniors groups called "Seniors Vote" led by the National Pensioners Federation, the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada and Canada's Association for the Fifty-Plus (CARP) agreed to highlight these common concerns of seniors in this election.

In Ottawa, the delegates to the 71st annual convention of the National Pensioners Federation, members of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada and other seniors groups will be highlighting these issues on Parliament Hill from 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM on October 1st. This event will display a flag developed for the Canadian celebration of the "International Day of Older Persons." This flag will be seen in many municipal celebrations across Canada.
