CAMP CORRAL PARTNERS WITH DAV (DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS) TO EXPAND SUPPORT FOR MILITARY FAMILIES

Partnership will help send 1,000 military kids to summer camp

Raleigh, April 28, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Camp Corral announced a formal partnership with DAV (Disabled American Veterans) to expand Camp Corral’s programs supporting veterans and their families. The partnership strengthens DAV’s longstanding relationship with Camp Corral, a nonprofit organization that provides free, one-of-a-kind summer camp experiences for children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. DAV’s additional support will allow 1,000 children of injured and ill service members and veterans to attend the camps.

“We are grateful for the work DAV is doing to help our nation’s heroes,” said Mary Beth Hernandez, Camp Corral CEO. “DAV has been supporting Camp Corral for several years, and their generosity has allowed us to serve many military families across the country. We look forward to the positive impact this partnership has to expand Camp Corral’s reach and provide the week of a lifetime to more military kids.”

Camp Corral was founded in 2011 as a one-camp pilot program and has rapidly grown to 21 partner camps in 19 states. The organization partners with accredited YMCA and 4-H camps that offer military kids traditional camp experiences through activities such as horseback riding, canoeing and rock climbing. Camp Corral has served over 10,000 military children, the majority of whom have a parent who is wounded, disabled or fallen.

“DAV is proud to support Camp Corral and its mission of ‘serving those who have served us,’” said Marc Burgess, DAV’s National Adjutant and CEO. “We recognize that the children of military members and injured veterans endure unique sacrifices along with their parents. Providing them with resources and giving them a chance to be kids while connecting with children from similar backgrounds and experiences is a critical aspect of this partnership and just one reason DAV is so proud to be a part of it.”

DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. The organization provides more than 700,000 rides for veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with more than 300,000 benefit claims annually. DAV connects veterans with meaningful employment, hosting job fairs and providing resources to ensure they have the opportunity to participate in the American Dream their sacrifices have made possible.

About DAV

DAV empowers veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. It is dedicated to a single purpose: fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. DAV does this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; assisting them with employment; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life. DAV, a non-profit organization with nearly 1.3 million members, was founded in 1920 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1932. For more information, visit www.dav.org.
