iMerciv Wins Accessibility Innovation Tech Pitch Competition for BuzzClip Wearable Device

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - May 16, 2016) - iMerciv Inc., a startup company based at the University of Toronto's Impact Centre, is pleased to announced it was recently awarded $20,000 for its BuzzClip product during the Ontario Centre's of Excellence (OCE) Accessibility Innovation Tech Pitch Competition. The 'BuzzClip' is a discrete wearable for those living with vision loss. The product uses ultrasound to detect obstacles in the users path and notifies the wearer through intuitive vibrations, allowing the user to safely navigate around any objects that they may walk into.

The competition was part of the second OCE Discovery Accessibility Innovation Showcase at the Discovery Conference 2016. The Showcase provided an opportunity for young companies to demonstrate innovative accessibility technologies with the goal of building broader awareness of the companies that exist in this niche market, provide exposure to potential private investors, and engage the entire innovation ecosystem.

"The competition was very tight and all companies that pitched are doing awesome things for those with disabilities," said Arjun Mali, co-founder and CFO of iMerciv Inc. "We are proud to have the support of the province to propel our business forward and change the game for those living with vision loss here and across the world."

The company will be using their first-place prize money to complete manufacturing of the BuzzClip and attain the necessary certifications it needs to be shipped and distributed across the world.
