GRAPEVINE, TX--(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) - GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today that beginning Memorial Day weekend, GameStop and ThinkGeek guests can donate at the point-of-purchase for the kids of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®.
"As a company we believe in the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and our associates and guests are very passionate about giving for the kids who are fighting big battles with cancer," said Matt Hodges, vice president of public and investor relations. "We are eager to partner with St. Jude for the fourth consecutive year in this fundraising event throughout our stores nationwide and online."
From May 27 through June 30, guests can donate at any GameStop or at www.gamestop.com. As a 'thank you' to guests who donate $1 or more, GameStop is offering triple PowerUp Rewards points on the donation amount. Guests also can donate at any ThinkGeek retail store, including the newly opened ThinkGeek store located at Herald Square at 33rd and Broadway, in New York City. A limited-edition T-shirt benefitting St. Jude will be available for purchase on www.ThinkGeek.com. GameStop's mobile gaming division, www.Kongregate.com, and the world's largest gaming magazine, Game Informer, also will support St. Jude through an online awareness campaign, "Give for the Kids of St. Jude."
Since first partnering with St. Jude, the company has helped raise more than $4.3 million thanks to the donations and support of its customers and associates. These funds ensure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer. The hospital freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, so every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
