2016 Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study Available From Dresner Advisory Services

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jul 27, 2016) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2016 Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study. The report, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research, examines the unique role of the Business Intelligence Competency Center, a cross-functional group responsible for defining, delivering, documenting, and promoting best-practice business intelligence (BI) solutions within an organization.

The 3rd Edition report considers multiple aspects of the BI Competency Center (BICC) including staffing and reporting structures, skills and activities, budget and funding, and success rates. BICC respondents view the group as a strong functional driver of BI, with programs targeted more evenly towards managers, customers, and suppliers as opposed to executive audiences, which are traditionally favored.

"We believe that organizing for success is an important step in achieving best-practice business intelligence and the BICC is a proven means to achieve this," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "Organizations with a competency center describe greater BI success today and predict greater future success. They also report a higher level of trust in the accuracy of their data, as well as an increased ability to take action on insights, both of which are leading indicators of a successful BI project."

According to the report, the BICC reporting structure and oversight most often rolls up to IT or operations. On average, BICCs are three to five years old, with staffing tending to level off over time. The report also showed a slight shift in the prioritization of BICC objectives. BICC respondents that had emphasized decision making and operational success are now more likely to seek increased competitive advantage and better customer service.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. To purchase a copy of the 2016 Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study, visit www.BICC.report.
