BOSTON, Nov. 30, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Patient Safety Foundation, a central voice for patient safety since 1997, recently welcomed five new organizations to the Stand Up for Patient Safety Program. The Stand Up program is an organizational membership program that provides tools, education, and shared learning opportunities needed to support patient safety initiatives across the care continuum.
The five new member organizations join the existing 750 members of this growing program.

The newest Stand Up for Patient Safety members are:
- Valley View Hospital: Valley View is a not-for-profit health care organization that includes physician practices, specialty centers, care centers, and Valley View Hospital. Valley View serves the Roaring Fork Valley region in western Colorado.
- SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium: SEARHC is a nonprofit tribal health consortium that focuses on care for the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and other rural people in southeast Alaska. It is one of the oldest and largest Native-run health organizations in Alaska providing primary care, behavioral health, traveling clinics, dental services, and more to the communities it serves.
- Bronson Healthcare: Bronson Healthcare system is a locally owned and governed organization in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana with more than 7,800 employees. Bronson Healthcare's hospitals, outpatient services, and physician offices offer services ranging from primary care to advanced critical care.
- Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing: TTUHSC School of Nursing in West Texas provides baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral education and has graduated more than 10,000 students. Its mission is "to educate nursing professionals for improving public health through research, inter-professional teamwork, patient care, community engagement, and service."
- University of Utah Health Care: University of Utah Health Care (UUHC) provides care for the people of Utah and a referral area encompassing five states and more than 10% of the continental US. The health system includes four hospitals – University of Utah Hospital, the University of Utah Orthopaedic Center, University Neuropsychiatric Institute, and Huntsman Cancer Hospital – with more than 1,300 physicians practicing more than 150 medical specialties.
The NPSF Stand Up for Patient Safety program, founded in 2002, is a signature program of the Foundation and was created to help health care organizations launch, sustain, and advance patient safety initiatives.
