300 Chefs to Bike 300 Miles and Raise Funds for 20 Million Meals for Hungry Kids

In May 2017, Acclaimed Chefs to Cycle for Three Days to Benefit No Kid Hungry

Washington, D.C., Dec. 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This coming May, 300 notable chefs and food industry professionals will swap their aprons for spandex and descend on Santa Rosa, Calif. to ride 300 miles over three days with the goal of raising $2 million, or 20 million meals, for No Kid Hungry.

The third annual Chefs Cycle fundraising event, to be held May 16-18, 2017, draws from the culinary world’s brightest talent, who will push their physical and mental limits in the name of ending childhood hunger in America. Notable riders include: Top Chef Masters winner Chris Cosentino of Cockscomb (SF); the Food Network’s Duff Goldman; acclaimed chef and author Seamus Mullen of Tertulia (NYC); James Beard Foundation Award nominee Bryan Voltaggio of Volt, Voltaggio Brothers Steak House (MD) and Range (DC), Justin Severino of Cure and Morcilla (PA); Chefs Cycle founder Jason Roberts; restaurateur Jeff Mahin, and many others.

"Nearly 1 in 5 kids will face hunger this year, but it doesn’t have to be that way," says Debbie Shore, co-founder of Share Our Strength, the organization behind No Kid Hungry. “Chefs Cycle is a unique way for culinary professionals to give back and make sure kids get the healthy food they need every day. The same qualities it takes to complete 300 miles in 3 days – determination, hard work, training and commitment – are the same qualities it takes to end child hunger, and these cyclists have it!”

The funds raised through Chefs Cycle will support No Kid Hungry’s work to ensure that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast and families learn the skills they need to shop and cook on a budget.

“Last year was my first with Chefs Cycle, and it was an eye-opening experience to see what small part we can play in helping children in need ,” said Cockcomb’s Chris Cosentino, who raised thousands of dollars for No Kid Hungry. “It’s an honor to be part of such an important program, and I look forward to the 2017 event.”

Each rider has a personal fundraising page with the goal of raising at least $7,500 as part of a community of committed culinary cyclists who marry their passions for food, fitness and philanthropy. In 2016 Chefs Cycle raised $1 million, with every dollar donated providing a child in need with ten meals.
