DENVER, March 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Good Buy Gear (www.goodbuygear.com), an online marketplace for buying and selling used kids’ gear, is one of ten companies selected from hundreds of applicants by Boulder-based Boomtown Accelerator to participate in the eighth Boomtown tech class, beginning last month.

Founded in 2016 by Kristin Langenfeld and Jessica Crothers, Good Buy Gear offers many benefits other online marketplaces don’t. Good Buy Gear users simply upload their items to the site, and when the item is purchased, sellers receive an email notification and Good Buy Gear does the rest — collects payment, picks up the item from the seller and delivers it to the buyer. The result is improved safety (no sketchy meet-ups with strangers), reliable payment, unmatched convenience and a clean shopping experience that curates used products that are appropriate for age-specific development.

Good Buy Gear currently operates in the Denver metro area but is looking at expansion to additional cities.

“We love to spoil our kids, but there are ways to do it responsibly,” said Langenfeld, CEO and co-founder. “By selling and buying pre-used gear, we are teaching our kids about finances, true-life examples of reduce/reuse/recycle and living more simply.”

Langenfeld is an electrical engineer with experience building and launching worldwide products and has been part of leadership teams for a number of mobile companies and tech startups. Crothers began her career as a preschool teacher and spent more than 10 years as an advisor to the federal government on Head Start.

“I am  thrilled to join the Boomtown community, diving deeply into the business mechanics of Good Buy Gear and learning from a wide variety of knowledgeable people,” said Crothers, COO and co-founder. “It will be intense and extremely fulfilling and we are so grateful to be chosen among the large pool of entrepreneurs who were also seeking this opportunity.”

Boomtown provides companies like Good Buy Gear with a 12-week program that provides training, access to mentors, programming, financing and a wide variety of other resources. The estimated value of the experience is more than $1.3 million.
