MedHOK Funds Historic St. Peter Claver Bicycle Ride to Raise Much Needed Funds for Underprivileged Children

Tampa, FL, Aug. 02, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MedHOK®, recognized by Inc. magazine and Deloitte as one of the fastest growing, most innovative healthcare SaaS companies, is proud to be the key financial supporter of the I /A\m Biking for Student Success campaign to raise money for St. Peter Claver Catholic School students and programs.

The fundraiser bicycle ride, conducted by the coaches of the church community’s the I /A\m ProGram, will travel 500 miles round-trip from Tampa to Miami. The ride kicks off Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017, at 6 a.m. from the St. Peter Claver Catholic School located at 1401 N Governor St, Tampa, and will end on August 6 at the school.

The I /A\m ProGram coaches will live stream their ride at http://www.facebook.com/marvin.jones.3975, beginning August 2 at 6 a.m. and running through completion of the ride on August 6. Donations in support of the fundraiser can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/bikingforstudentsuccess.

The I /A\m ProGram coaches, Marvin D Jones (Papi-Gallo), Harold Wilson (Coach Bulo), Terrence Wilson (Coach Rex), and Natalie Novak (Coach Nat), will wind their way to Miami. Upon arrival, they will do one pull-up for each student at St. Peter Claver on South Beach, FL, before biking back to Tampa.

“Giving back to the community that has supported our explosive growth is very important to MedHOK,” said Anil Kottoor, CEO of MedHOK. “We work with several local charities to support their efforts in underserved areas of Tampa to help the community that has been so supportive of MedHOK. We strongly believe in investing our resources in supporting local charities, like those that help underprivileged children.”

“MedHOK employees are encouraged to support their favorite charities as well. As an added benefit, MedHOK pays for each employee to volunteer for the charity of their choice one day a year,” Kottoor added.

St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and School, founded in 1893, were established to serve the spiritual and educational needs of the African American community. Victimized by arson in 1894 shortly after the school opened, the buildings were burned to the ground. Later that same year, the buildings reopened on a nearby lot.

In 2007, the doors of St. Peter Claver were being closed. Rich in African American history the school was forgotten with only 64 students enrolled at the time. Joe Capitano Jr., Phil Alessi Jr., and Marvin D. Jones, founder of the I /A\m ProGram, saw the condition of the school and decided that the children will be forgotten no longer.

“We are truly blessed to help the children of St. Peter Claver reach their full potential,” said Marvin Jones, founder of the I /A\m ProGram. “Since our program began, we have seen the children make huge strides in their studies as well as in their daily lives. From our enrichment program, to our sports programs, as well as from tutoring to mentoring, we strive to equip our students with the qualities needed to succeed and to positively impact their schools, communities, and the world. The results show in these children each and every day.”

Today, more than 300 students attend St. Peter Claver. In only two years, Marvin Jones and the I /A\m ProGram have helped the students raise their grade point averages from 1.2 to 2.5 and still climbing.
