Kilopass Technology Announces Design Win in Next Generation Nuvoton Embedded Controllers Targeting Desktop and Mobile computers

Kilopass OTP NVM IP Will Store Calibration Values, Security Algorithms Keys, and Specific Configuration Data for Nuvoton End Customers

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kilopass Technology Inc., the leading provider of semiconductor logic anti-fuse one-time programmable (OTP) non-volatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP), today announced that Nuvoton Technology, a leading Embedded Controller provider, has licensed the Kilopass IP for next generation designs targeting desktop and mobile computers.  Nuvoton will use the Kilopass OTP NVM IP to store calibration values, keys for security algorithms, and specific configuration data for its end customers.

“Kilopass provides Nuvoton fundamental memory IP that we use in our microcontroller designs for storing content that must be secure or that calibrates elements of our design or customizes our applications,” said Erez Naory, VP Client IC products. “We continue to advance our product research and development and focus on the three major technologies of low power consumption, analog IC and security. We enter specific applications through product innovation and advancement in the technology of the production process. Having an IP supplier such as Kilopass helps us achieve these ends.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of the next generation Nuvoton MCU design,” said Linh Hong, Vice President and General Manager of the Kilopass OTP Division. “Our OTP NVM memory has much to offer the requirements of Nuvoton Embedded Controller architecture. Foremost is security. Our IP is based on standard logic CMOS process and consists of simply programming a transistor to an always-on state.  Thus, it is very difficult to detect its programmed state using passive side-channel attacks or more aggressive scanning electron microscope techniques. This makes our IP so secure it is the repository of the encryption keys in most set top boxes. In addition, because our IP can be programmed once a chip is fabricated, it makes it ideal for customizing a standard design for a variety of different markets, thus reducing inventory costs.”

About the Embedded Controller Market
Embedded controllers are MCUs that sit on the computer Mother Board and manage the system behavior such as power sequence, fan management, battery management, and all system events. The embedded controller market size is around 280 million units. Nuvoton is a leading embedded controller supplier. With its Embedded Controller line and MCU based Super I/Os, it commands around 35% market share.
