New Symposium on Consumerism in Healthcare Announced

Exclusive gathering of leading health systems and speakers to explore changing demands of consumer-centric financial care and future of medical billing and payments

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 17, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The  Healthcare Consumerism Symposium will take place in Chicago on November 2-3, 2017. Hosted by Simplee® and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, this exclusive gathering of industry leaders will dissect the intersection of consumerism and patient financial obligation in healthcare, and provide lessons for how to increase patient satisfaction and improve financial performance.

The event arrives at a critical time for health systems. Many hospitals and providers struggle with lost revenues, administrative inefficiencies, a high cost of collections, and poor patient satisfaction ratings. This first-of-its-kind event is designed to help healthcare leaders assess the opportunity to remake medical billing and payments as a consumer-centric practice.

Speakers and attendees will engage in lively discussions about the risks and opportunities in this shift, and how advances in patient financial care could ultimately impact patient medical care. Topics to be covered include transparency, affordability and patient-centric success metrics.

Located at the Hotel Chicago, the event kicks off Thursday evening with a fireside chat between HFMA President & CEO Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA, and 4sight Health Founder and CEO, Dave Johnson, entitled “Putting the Patient First,” followed by a reception. The full-day Friday agenda includes a mix of keynotes, interactive roundtable discussions, and panel explorations. Additional speakers include:

  • Kate McCarthy, Forrester Senior Analyst
  • Laurie Hurwitz, Executive Director of Revenue Cycle at Gundersen Health System
  • Michael Allen, Chief Financial Officer at OSF Healthcare
  • Nio Queiro, Vice President of Revenue Cycle at Hennepin Medical Center
  • Rubin Pillay, MD, Chief Innovation Officer at University of Alabama Health System
