EDGE3 Technologies Receives CES 2018 Innovation Award

Ambient AI Saving Children Left Behind in Vehicles

NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EDGE3 Technologies, a leading supplier of end-to-end Artificial Intelligence and vision analytics products, today announced that it has been named a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree in the field of Vehicle Intelligence and Self Driving Technology for The Ambient Sensing Node.  This new product detects, monitors and alerts car owners of children or pets that may be left behind inside vehicles. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories.

Worldwide, scores of children and pets die every year from heat-related causes after being trapped inside vehicles.  This issue has received much public attention with the introduction in the United States Senate of the Helping Overcome Trauma for Children Alone in Rear Seat Act (HOT CARS Act) which aims to prevent heatstroke deaths of children trapped in hot cars.  The proposed legislation would require consumer vehicles to be equipped with technology, like EDGE3’s Ambient Sensing Node, to alert drivers if a child is left in the backseat once the car is turned off.  Also in the United States, four states (CA, TN, TX, WI) have passed laws requiring all daycare vans, and school busses to have child safety alert systems.

The Ambient Sensing Node is a first of its kind, employing sensor fusion, a networked topology and Artificial Intelligence in order to provide the Automotive Industry a complete solution for eliminating these tragic events.  When embedded into a vehicle, this small, low-cost, artificial intelligence powered device enables a multichannel monitoring system that can analyze movement in the vehicle, including minute movements such as breathing or heartbeats.  Should a potentially hazardous condition arise while the vehicle is parked with an unattended child or pet inside, or if an unauthorized intruder breaks into the vehicle, the system will alert the vehicle's owner via text or telematics notification.

“Knowing if a loved one has been left behind in a vehicle and monitoring their safety through an ambient AI is important to EDGE3,” said Jon Barad, senior vice president at EDGE3 Technologies. “It takes just minutes for a car sitting in the sun to reach unsafe temperatures for anyone inside, let alone children.  EDGE3’s Ambient Sensing Node will eliminate these tragic accidents from happening and will save lives.”

The CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the owner and producer of CES 2018.

EDGE3 Technologies’ Ambient Sensing Node product will be showcased at CES Unveiled New York, which takes place on November 9 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York as well at CES 2018, which runs January 9-12, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
