Believe it: Puerto Rico Comic Con is happening, in a big way

TV’s John Barrowman, Casey Cott and Juliana Harkavy, and comic book creators Jim Starlin and Gail Simone, are among the many entertainment industry professionals that will be on hand

San Juan, PR, May 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tens of thousands of geeks and pop culture enthusiasts from all over will descend on Puerto Rico this weekend to enjoy next-level entertainment and engage with a host of industry professionals, actors, comic book artists, content creators, and more, as part of Puerto Rico Comic Con. As the region’s premiere entertainment event, now in its 16th year, this year’s Puerto Rico Comic Con takes on a special meaning as the island finds itself in the midst of historic rebuilding and transformation after the passing of Hurricane María last September.

“Puerto Rico is moving on and forging a new future, and Puerto Rico Comic Con’s value proposition is an important part of that process, bringing a sense of normalcy to everyday life through quality entertainment, as well as strengthening our commitment to local independent artists and content creators, from whom the event is an important platform to showcase their work. Our guests are ready, our partners are ready, our fans are ready. It’s showtime!’” said Ricardo Carrion, executive producer of Puerto Rico Comic Con.

Guests from myriad fields. As in the past, this year’s event will host a variety special guests from different areas of entertainment. On hand to sign autographs, take photos with fans, and participate in Q&A panels will be:

  • Casey Cott – Actor in the TV series Riverdale

"This year’s guest lineup is the result of our commitment to giving fans a world-class entertainment experience year after year, as well as the celebrities they want to meet. We are very proud to have them on board," said Carrion. He also noted that, judging from the overwhelming support received so far from fans, partners and sponsors, Puerto Rico Comic Con 2018 is poised to be the first multitudinous event to be held on the Island since the storm eight months ago.

A Con in Paradise. Each year people from all over the Americas come to Puerto Rico Comic Con, as the event stands out from other cons for its idyllic location. The island of Puerto Rico is a Caribbean paradise featuring a year-round tropical climate. As a U.S. territory, no passport is required for travel from the U.S. mainland, and U.S. currency is the official form of payment. Couple that with entertainment geekdom over three days, and it’s a win-win situation for fans. Convention goers often turn their stay into a mini vacation, given Puerto Rico’s colorful culture, cuisine, history, natural wonders, and beaches.

Since 2002, Puerto Rico Comic Con has stood out as the main and most important entertainment event in the region. The event runs from May 18-20 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan.
