These two updated models promise improved image quality and handling compared to their predecessors. The third-gen f/2.8L features Canon’s Air Sphere Coating to minimize flare and ghosting while its IS system is rated to 3.5 stops for sharper photos. It incorporates a fluorine coating on the front and rear elements for added protection.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II has some unique improvements, such as a closer minimum focus distance of just 3.3' and an Image Stabilizer rated to five stops that will make it easier to handhold shots. Both lenses use fluorite and UD elements to combat aberrations and both now have nine-blade apertures for smooth bokeh.
