Unifi Software Announces Deeper Platform Integration to Catalog Tableau Metadata

New Navigational Views on Trusted Data, Smart Filter Searching, and Recently Viewed Datasets Add to Ease of Finding the Right Data

SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Unifi Software, a leader in providing a seamlessly integrated suite of self-service data tools, today announced the general availability of V2.9 of the Unifi Data Platform with seamless integration to catalog Tableau metadata. In addition, Unifi added numerous new navigational views to its data catalog to quickly see when data and data sources are noted as ‘Trusted’, Smart Filtering to speed time to insight, and Recently Viewed Datasets to help all users easily find the right data for business analyses.

As noted in a recent 451 Research survey released this week, data – and the rapid access and processing of data – are key drivers in enabling companies to grasp the opportunities presented by digital transformation to deliver a competitive advantage. For the vast number of organizations that have multi-server Tableau installations, a global view of Tableau data may be elusive. Users connected to different servers are quite likely recreating Views that have been created previously. It can be a tremendous challenge to get a true, comprehensive view of Tableau Projects, Workbooks and Views created across all Tableau sites and servers—until now with Unifi.

“We started our journey integrating with Tableau earlier this year. In our latest release, we extended Unifi to support crawling metadata from a Tableau server into the Unifi Data Catalog. This greatly enhanced the ability for Tableau administrators and data stewards to get an aggregated view of all Tableau Projects, Workbooks and Views across multiple Tableau sites and servers. Today, we’re announcing an even more dramatic leap ahead in capabilities for searching on metadata in Tableau within our data catalog to easily see if something was created previously and where it exists for potential reuse,” said Mahesh Gandhe, Director of Product Development, for Unifi Software.

Key features in Version 2.9 of the Unifi Data Platform include:

BI Explorer for Tableau—The Unifi BI Explorer for Tableau now synchronizes Tableau metadata to the Unifi server providing a consolidated view of all projects and workbooks across multiple Tableau sites and servers. When a user logs into Unifi and navigates to the BI Tableau summary page they see a list of Tableau Servers. Adding their Tableau credentials creates the mapping between the Unifi user and the Tableau server. Active live Tableau views are embedded in the Unifi Data Catalog UI. Any change made in real-time in Tableau for views is reflected immediately inside the Unifi Data Catalog.

File CrawlerUsers now have the option to “Crawl and Import” files from data sources. Users can choose from various options, such as the base directory to crawl on, recursive crawl, file inclusions/exclusions, or dataset prefixes and tags. When creating a file system data source users can automatically create new datasets by traversing the files of a directory and/or a subdirectory. Once the crawl has completed, users will see the newly created datasets in the Unifi Dataset Explorer.

Trusted Datasets—The Dataset Explorer in Unifi now allows users to endorse datasets as ‘Trusted’ or to ‘Deprecate’ the data source. Hovering over the trusted icon displays any comments entered when the file was marked as trusted and denotes the user marking the file. A clear distinction is made on a dataset that should not be used.

Smart Filtering—In each of the summary pages, users will now be presented with a new Filtering section to improve the way users browse through large sets of results. Smart Filtering allows users to filter each page by one or more categories with the results immediately displayed.

Recently Viewed Datasets—In addition to summary view enhancements which allow users to easily work with columns, such as the ability to resize and sort columns, the Dataset View also now contains the ten most recently viewed datasets at the top of the Dataset Explorer page. This view displays snapshots of the latest datasets accessed. Each snapshot contains sample data and the fully qualified name of the dataset.

Version 2.9 of the Unifi Data Platform is now generally available. For more information about Unifi Software call 1-844-TO-UNIFI or visit www.unifisoftware.com.
