Mist Delivers First Cloud-based OpenConfig Implementation for Wireless Networking

Testing Completed on API Standard that Brings Ease and Efficiency to WLAN Configuration and Management

CUPERTINO, Calif., Oct. 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mist, a pioneer in self-learning networks powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), announced support today for OpenConfig, a common API standard for configuring and monitoring networking equipment. By supporting the OpenConfig standard, Mist is leading the industry towards open and programmable Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) that are easy to deploy and operate and are interoperable with other networking equipment for automation and insight across the IT stack.

“While incumbent vendors are attempting to implement OpenConfig directly on WLAN hardware, such as controllers and Access Points, Mist is the first to implement this standard in the cloud,” said Sudheer Matta, vice president of product at Mist. “This unique approach to OpenConfig enables IT personnel to manage large networks as a single instance instead of many distributed devices, which reduces errors, lowers operational costs, and delivers unparalleled scale.”

Benefits of OpenConfig include:

  • Efficient monitoring of large networks. OpenConfig provides a means by which IT departments can easily subscribe to configuration and stats channels and send/receive push-driven events and updates.
  • Support for multi-vendor environments. OpenConfig allows for interchangeable Wi-Fi networking equipment based on industry standards and a common set of configuration/monitoring paradigms across different vendors’ solutions.
  • Standards-based integration across the IT stack. As a leader in AI for IT, Mist has been working with leading vendors like Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, and VMware VeloCloud to extend Mist’s wireless insight and AI-driven automation with complimentary LAN, WAN and security solutions. With OpenConfig, there is a standards-based approach for achieving similar types of integration across the IT industry.

Availability
Mist has completed Phase I and II of OpenConfig testing and plans to move to pilot deployments in November. Final support of the standard will be generally available shortly after.
