Cumulus Networks Partners with Lenovo to Deliver Networking Switches for the Open, Modern Data Center

Lenovo will support market-leading Cumulus Linux and Cumulus NetQ to help organizations achieve open and scalable modern data centers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cumulus Networks, the leaders in building networking software for the open, modern, data center, today announced a partnership with Lenovo, a Global Fortune 500 company and a technology leader in Intelligent Transformation, to deliver open data center networking switches. Through the partnership, Lenovo will offer ThinkSystem RackSwitch models with support for Cumulus Linux. Lenovo customers can now use Cumulus’ popular network operating system (OS), Cumulus Linux, and Cumulus’ operational management tool, NetQ, while taking advantage of unprecedented third-party options including network automation and monitoring to drive greater operational efficiency.

“Today, applications are becoming more complex and require a modern, highly scalable, and simple infrastructure, built on a set of standardized components. Open networking is no longer a nice-to-have — it’s now a requirement for today’s innovative companies,” said Josh Leslie, CEO of Cumulus Networks. “The network is a critical part of the data center that has traditionally been a bottleneck for rapid deployment of applications. From provisioning and deployment to monitoring and operations, Cumulus and Lenovo will completely transform the way organizations do business by enabling a modern approach — with simplicity, automation and business resilience in mind.”

Together, Lenovo and Cumulus Networks provide operational efficiency with the robust Linux ecosystem, scalability with Ethernet VPN, and a simplified cloud-based operational model. Lenovo fulfills its promise of vendor flexibility, while at the same time delivering true open switch products that enable organizations to choose the OS best suited for its business. Cumulus, the power house of open networking for more than 1,500 companies globally, helps create the most open and agile networking software for the modern data center enabling organizations to scale with automation, visibility and standardization at the core.

Today, Lenovo is introducing the following ONIE model switches with Cumulus Linux:

  • ThinkSystem NE0152TO RackSwitch – 1Gbase-T Ethernet Switch ONIE Version (EA)
  • ThinkSystem NE2572O RackSwitch – 25GbE Ethernet Switch ONIE version
  • ThinkSystem NE10032O RackSwitch – 100GbE Ethernet Switch ONIE version

“As a company unencumbered by legacy infrastructure, Lenovo offers a wide variety of products and solutions to best fit each customer’s individual business needs. Through this partnership with Cumulus, customers now have access to Lenovo’s best-of-breed networking hardware and their choice of Cumulus Linux or Lenovo’s Cloud Network Operating System (CNOS),” said Ahmed Murad, Director of Product Management at Lenovo Data Center Group. “These additions to Lenovo’s growing portfolio of switches provide IT organizations even more choice as they select solutions for their data center infrastructure.”

In 2019, Lenovo will expand its Open Networking portfolio to include more switch models.
