King & Spalding Adds Public Finance Partner in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Jan. 09, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- King & Spalding today announced that Matthew W. Nichols has joined the firm as a partner with the Corporate, Finance and Investments practice group in the Atlanta office.

Nichols represents both issuers and underwriters in financings for state and local governments, health care providers, institutions of higher education and other charitable organizations, focusing on transactions in transportation, health care, and higher education.

“Bolstering our public finance capability is important to our clients — financial institutions, not-for-profits and companies — who access the tax-exempt capital market for financing,” said Todd Holleman, head of the firm’s Corporate, Finance and Investments practice group. “We are delighted to welcome Matt, who brings great experience, client relationships and technical expertise to the firm.”

Nichols joins from the public finance practice at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, after spending the first 25 years of his career at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. The Best Lawyers in America named him “Lawyer of the Year” in Atlanta in 2018 for Public Finance Law. Nichols received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.

“Matt's skill set and capabilities are essential to our clients' need for public finance expertise - in particular our growing base of infrastructure and healthcare industry clients throughout the US and here in the Southeast,” said Josh Kamin, office managing partner of the Atlanta office. “Matt has a well-earned reputation in the market and we are excited he is joining us in Atlanta.”

“King & Spalding’s growth strategy and energy are hard to miss,” said Nichols. “The firm’s platform and range of expertise, including their focus on serving the financial services industry, make it the right place for me to grow my public finance practice. I look forward to teaming up with my new colleagues at King & Spalding to grow the practice.”
