Design & Manufacturing New England 2019 Unveils Leading Design Engineering Programming for its 10th Edition

Over 35 hours of educational panels and sessions available for attendees to explore the product lifecycle, through engineering design to manufacturing

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 16, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- New England’s premier design engineering showcase event, Design & Manufacturing (D&M) New England 2019, today announced an extensive expo showcase of design engineering, medtech, and embedded systems products to coincide with free and paid conference technical sessions, panel discussions, and case study presentations led by industry experts. The event takes place May 15 and 16, 2019 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, MA.

Design & Manufacturing New England is part of Advanced Manufacturing Boston and runs alongside BIOMEDevice Boston and the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC). To apply for a media pass to attend, please visit: boston.am.ubm.com/2019/registrations/Media.

“Today, product design is on the cutting edge of technology; new services and devices are constantly emerging and advancing across the design engineering spectrum,” said Suzanne Deffree, Brand Director, Intelligent Systems & Design, Informa. “Design & Manufacturing New England offers attendees a one-stop event where design engineers can broaden their knowledge and are equipped with new techniques from today’s best product creators. The comprehensive education featured throughout the two-day event is unmatched in quality and touches upon a wide range of industries from medtech to automotive where anyone can find a session relevant to their needs.”

Expo attendees will have the opportunity to see the full turnkey design to manufacturing process on the show floor. Globally recognized companies will showcase their design services, contract manufacturing and testing equipment. Additionally, attendees can expect to see the latest design software, precision machining parts, and services highlighted at this year’s event.

For its 10th year, programming will reflect the educational needs of design engineers working in the breadth of industries: robotics, aerospace, defense, medical, consumer electronics, automotive, among many more.

Featured sessions at D&M New England include:

Robotics Between Fantasy & Reality
Wednesday, May 15, 10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Engineering Theater, featuring Fady Saad, Co-Founder & Director of Partnerships, MassRobotics, free for all attendees

There is no doubt that there are massive opportunities for the robotics industry and people who are leading it, but the challenge is that talking about robotics in general terms is sometimes misleading. This talk will discuss the evolving trends in the robotics market based on MassRobotics’ co-founder, Fady Saad’s experience in co-founding the U.S. leading robotics startup innovation hub and interacting with many startups, corporates, investors, and academic institutions.

Creating Safe, High-Performance Automotive Applications
Wednesday, May 15, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Room 107B, featuring Shawn Prestridge, Senior Field Applications Engineer, IAR Systems, paid session

Looking to start an automotive project with safety-critical functionality or functional safety requirements? In this session, find out how to balance safety and high-performance through the examination of the inherent dangers of C/C++ and how to neutralize by adopting a coding standard. Furthermore, discover how to write efficient code that is also compliant with coding standards to prove that safety and speed really are compatible.

How Synthetic Biology is Driving Healthcare Manufacturing Innovation
Thursday, May 16, 10:25 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Center Stage, Booth 543, featuring Sridhar Iyengar, CEO, Elemental Machines, free for all attendees

Sridhar Iyengar, CEO, Elemental Machines will speak to how synthetic biology has the potential to disrupt healthcare. Through synthetic biology, it is now possible to produce silk without spiders, milk without cows, and leather without hides. Using this fast-moving technology with extraordinarily diverse applications, microorganisms can be modified to generate raw materials such as specialty chemicals (pharmaceutical intermediates, rare chemicals, biomaterials, food ingredients) and biofuels at a much lower cost than with traditional manufacturing methods.

Common Sense & Six Sigma to Make Embedded Systems Simple & Cost-Effective
Thursday, May 16, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Engineering Theater, featuring Jack Frederick, CEO, Rocket Science & Leadership, free for all attendees

This hands-on session will examine and demonstrate principles that will help to enhance designs applying rocket science, aerodynamics, common sense, Six Sigma, and mathematics. Learn how to identify areas to improve and transform designs for cost and performance—a key to success is to see what others don’t see to clearly visualize data and solutions.

2019 Keynotes

Join us for an all-star keynote lineup featuring Scott Huennekens, former CEO Verb Surgical and Kevin Blankespoor, Vice President of Product Engineering, Boston Dynamics. In “Fireside Chat with Scott Huennekens,” Huennekens will sit down with MassMEDIC President Brian Johnson to discuss Medtech 4.0 and how the intersection of robotics, AI, and medical devices will change the future of care. Blankespoor’s address, “Exploring Real World Applications for Dynamic Robots,” will educate attendees on the different working applications for mobile robots in the real world through years of research and development at Boston Dynamics, as well as provide a live demonstration of Boston Dynamic’s robot, Spot.
