Dr. Hurwitz to present at the Annual meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) on oblique flankplasty

Pittsburgh, PA, May 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pittsburgh, PA – Dr. Dennis Hurwitz of Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery will be presenting a course on “Oblique Flankplasty as an Alternative to Lower Body Lift” on May 18 at noon at the Annual Aesthetic Meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in New Orleans.

Oblique flankplasty, an original technology developed by Dr. Hurwitz, is a body contouring procedure that targets the sides of the body and provides patients with a smoother, narrower waist by removing excess fat and skin. This effective technique is a posterior extension of lower transverse abdominoplasty that addresses issues that the traditional lower body lift typically cannot.  This procedure will redefine a deeper waist for female patients and remove undesirably large flanks for male patients.

“Most plastic surgeons, I want them to have the option for their patients and the best way to do that is to teach it one by one across the country,” Dr. Hurwitz said.

His course will be presented to 30+ plastic surgeons that have elected to learn more about indication, technique, and possible complications of oblique flankplasty. The ASAPS will also videotape the course for further education opportunities.

“They will learn that that oblique flankplasty, named for the orientation of the operation along the flanks in the back, and along with an abdominoplasty, contributes to the smallest possible waist,” Hurwitz said his presentation serves as an educational instruction course to increase the options of plastic surgeons in offering surgery to patients for body contouring after weight loss, pregnancy or to address the effects of aging on the skin.

Through peer review, Dr. Hurwitz published a paper on this innovative form of surgery in the Plastic Reconstruction Surgery, a leading journal in plastic surgery. Dr. Hurwitz said he has performed over 70 case presentations of oblique flankplasty with a low incidence of minor postoperative complications.

Dr. Hurwitz said he does not expect personal monetary gain from this presentation, but that it is simply to educate other plastic surgeons on this procedure and “being able to share it with others for the betterment of patients well beyond my own clinic and throughout the country.”

With only a handful of plastic surgeons provided this opportunity, Dr. Hurwitz said he is privileged to have the opportunity to present this information in the most meaningful way, along with the chance to have his course reviewed by his colleagues to help him perform the surgery better. “It is always a learning experience,” Dr. Hurwitz said.
