Telelogic Tau/Tester Selected as a Reference Tool by the 1394 Trade Association

Tests for Future FireWire Applications to be Developed Using Telelogic's New Tool

MALMO, Sweden and IRVINE, Calif., May 29, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Telelogic (Stockholm Exchange:TLOG), the leading global provider of solutions for advanced systems and software development, today announced that the 1394 Trade Association has selected Telelogic Tau/Tester as a reference tool. The 1394 Trade Association is a worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of the IEEE 1394 multimedia standards. The organization plans to use Tau/Tester( to develop future test specification standards.

Tau/Tester leverages the world's first multi-purpose test language TTCN- 3 (Testing and Test Control Notation). Already an industry standard, TTCN-3 is the successor to TTCN-2, a test notation that has been successfully used for conformance testing within the communications industry over the last decade. TTCN-3 builds on the success of TTCN-2, but it is easier to learn, since it closely resembles a programming language, while remaining test platform independent. As a result, TTCN-3 can be used to test virtually any system or application in a wide range of industries, not just telecom.

"Our worldwide members are now developing 1394-enabled consumer electronics and computer devices at a rapid rate and require a uniform method for developing and conducting functional conformance testing. With TTCN-3 we now have a standardized test language ideal for multimedia applications," said Dave Thompson, of Agere Systems, chair of the Trade Association's Compliance and Interoperability Group.

"In its role as a contributing member of the 1394 Trade Association, Telelogic understands our specific requirements. We are therefore pleased to have agreed on having Tau/Tester ready for our future development of protocol test specifications," Thompson added.

"This decision validates our dedication to bring tools to market that adhere to leading industry standards in various areas," said Ingemar Ljungdahl, chief technology officer for Telelogic. "Telelogic Tau/Tester is a test tool that can address the testing requirements of many vertical markets, not just telecom. Today's decision by the 1394 Trade Association is further validation of this."

About Tau/Tester

Tau/Tester is a standards-based tool suitable for testing a wide variety of systems and software applications across multiple industries. Tau/Tester supports the full lifecycle of test - from test design through to development, analysis, execution and debug - from a single desktop with a common, familiar studio interface. Tau/Tester brings a level of sophistication and functionality to the test engineer's desktop that is typically only found in today's leading development tools. Tau/Tester meets the critical need for automated, integrated testing tools that find errors early on in the development process where they are easier and cheaper to fix. When combined with built in test debugging and the ability to leverage off-the-shelf test suites, Tau/Tester accelerates the test development process while increasing application quality.

About the 1394 Trade Association and IEEE 1394 The 1394 Trade Association was founded in 1994 to support the development of computer and consumer electronics systems that can be easily connected with each other via a single serial multimedia link. The IEEE 1394 multimedia connection, also known as FireWiretm and i.LINKtm, enables simple, low cost, high bandwidth isochronous (real time) data interfacing between computers, peripherals, and consumer electronics products such as camcorders, VCRs, printers, PCs, TVs, and digital cameras. The 1394 Trade Association includes members from around the world, including Apple, Texas Instruments, Mitsubishi, Hewlett- Packard, NEC, Molex, Sony, Agere Systems, Intel, Cypress Semiconductor, Microsoft, Matsushita, Philips, and many others. About TTCN

Recently, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), its members, and the International Telecommunications Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) approved TTCN-3. Already an industry standard, TTCN-3 is the world's first multi-purpose standardized test language. The new language, which meets the needs of a broader testing market than TTCN-2, offers drastically shortened test development cycles and higher quality tests.
