Nokia announces move to Cyberjaya

Mr. Hannu Karavirta, Managing Director of Nokia (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, said: “This will involve the shift of Nokia's operations in Malaysia. The first phase of the move will commence in December this year, according to plan. The remaining staff will be moved in and the whole office operational from Cyberjaya as of January 2001.”
Mr. Karavirta added, “It is an important move for Nokia. Not only is it symbolic of our company’s commitment to the MSC project but it is also part of our overall plan to serve as a leader in the progress and development of the MSC project.”
Century Square is located in the Cyberjaya Flagship Zone, which covers an area of 2,894 hectares. It is being developed as a self-contained "intelligent" city, offering an ideal business environment. The complex also offers other unique features such as a 2.4Gbps network, high-speed Internet access, central cooling system and many more.
Within the new office, Nokia has allocated space to establish a Mobile Internet Center (MIC) which will serve as an incubator for the K-economy (knowledge based economy) in Malaysia.
Mr. Karavirta said, “The MIC is created with the intention to support the development and growth of the Mobile Internet Business in Malaysia and the region."
The Mobile Internet Centre will feature access to the Nokia Artus Developers Program. The program is available for any local Internet or intranet based application developer, content providers or system integrator that possesses the skills and ambition to develop applications and services relating to WAP and other mobile internet technologies.
“The program will converge valuable skills and knowledge of all participants in order to ensure further success and to meet future market needs in the area of the K-economy, forming the basis for a Mobile Information Society,” continues Mr. Karavirta.
